Doric Dictionary designed for Robert Gordon University
I was asked by the University's B2B Marketing Officer to come up with an idea for a welcome and departure gift at Aberdeen airport, so suggested a pocket guide to Doric, the local dialect spoken in and around Aberdeen. The purpose was to raise awareness of Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and encourage the conference attendees to visit the RGU stand at Offshore Europe. I researched and compiled all the Doric text and the RGU Digital Marketing Officer also asked students to contribute Doric phrases though the University's Facebook page. I also asked many colleages, friends and family for their suggestions too. I began by sketching out the structure of the book, deciding to categorise the phrases into sections reminiscent of high school language books including topics such as making basic conversation, counting, eating & drinking and the weather. I wanted to make the book a 'bite sized' read, light-hearted in tone and modern in style. The feedback from the business community in Aberdeen has been very positive and we are hoping to publish the book soon, and donate all monies raised to charity. www.rgu.ac.uk/doric-guide
